Ok I admit it I did something...illegal? Well, I'm not sure what you would call it. Here's the story...
I
recently bought a laptop and was
searching and searching for a cool yet functional backpack to put it in when I traveled. And I found one,
yay! It was a fun green color with not a lot of frills and fairly inexpensive. Double
yay! I went to buy it and couldn't pull down my country where it said country. I read closer, only sold in Canada.
I was upset as only an American consumer could be. Why couldn't I purchase what I wanted. After huffing and puffin I decided on choice two. A more adult looking black backpack.
It arrived via the US Postal service and it was huge and awkward and terribly rectangular. But I used it anyway until my boyfriend told me I looked like a Japanese school child. I knew the bag had a familiar look to it. I pictured myself in a uniform walking
amongst all my former students with my carefully organized rectangle-pack.
I returned it and came up with a great idea. I would ask my friend from
Canada who had recently moved here if someone in her lovely country could purchase that bag and mail it to me. I would in return mail them a check for the bag and the shipping fees.
It was done. And about 2 weeks ago I mailed Paul a money order I got from the Post Office and I sent the envelope - also bought at the post office - Registered Mail (the most secure way to send your items). Paul never got the letter.
I've been running around talking to several different postal employees filing reports and trying to figure out what to do next. Until I got this email today:
Hi Cori,I got a letter in the mail from Canada Customs (the border guards). They have confiscated your letter (I am serious) and they have asked me for permission to open it. I will agree of course, and we will see what happens next. Worst case maybe they will charge us some strange customs duty or something. I will keep you posted.
